Communications Associate
PRM Consulting, Inc. is a strategic communications firm specializing in public sector communications across California.
We are seeking a Communications Associate with early professional experience who is ready to take on meaningful responsibility supporting strategic communications, media relations, digital monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
This is a writing-intensive and detail-oriented role that also plays a critical support function in managing multiple client projects, ensuring deadlines are met, materials are organized, and communications are executed efficiently.
The successful candidate is a strong writer who is intellectually curious, highly organized, and follows the news closely, with an interest in how public narratives form and evolve.
This role is ideal for someone with 2–4 years of experience in communications, journalism, government, or public affairs who is interested in working on high-profile public policy and community issues.

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination and Internal Support
Track project timelines, deliverables, and deadlines across multiple clients
Support internal coordination to ensure work is completed on time and at a high standard
Organize files, materials, and shared resources across projects
Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and communications plans
Media Relations and Communications
Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, and background materials
Build and maintain media lists for local, regional, and trade outlets
Monitor traditional media coverage and identify emerging issues affecting clients
Assist with media outreach and interview coordination
Digital Monitoring and Social Listening
Monitor social media platforms
Prepare concise briefs summarizing online narratives
Research and Policy Tracking
Conduct background research on policy issues, public agencies, and stakeholders
Track government meetings and agendas
Prepare concise briefing memos
Community Outreach and Public Engagement
Support planning, execution and monitoring of community meetings, educational events and stakeholder briefings
Prepare outreach materials and presentations
Maintain outreach logs and stakeholder contact lists
Project Coordination
Support multiple client projects and communications timelines
Coordinate internal deliverables and client materials
Prepare PowerPoint presentation
PRM's office is in Chula Vista, California. This position is hybrid. It requires some in-office work, some after-hours evening and weekend work, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, journalism, public policy, or a related field
2-4 years of relevant professional experience
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Preferred:
Experience working with public agencies, elected officials, or community organizations
Familiarity with California public policy or local government
Comfort level with AI and desire to leverage AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT to improve workflow.
Canva or other graphic design
Bilingual ability
Compensation and Benefits - Full Time Position
Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 depending on experience
Flexible/hybrid work environment
15 days paid time off annually
